ID KAIST and Korea Policy Center for the 4th Industrial Revolution (KAIST KPC4IR) would like to invite you to participate in the Design 3.0 Forum in Daejeon, South Korea, which will be held this November on 15th, 2019.

The Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) presents both challenges and opportunities for designers. Design 3.0 Forum this year aims to re-think the competitiveness of design in the technology dominant world and discuss how to realize good design in the real world.

Bill Buxton

Microsoft

A Partner Researcher at Microsoft Research, Bill has an over 40-year involvement in research, practice and commentary around design, innovation and human aspects of technology. Following a 20-year career as a professional musician, he morphed into a researcher and interaction designer, at the University of Toronto, Xerox PARC, Alias Research and SGI Inc. He has been awarded four honourary doctorates, is co-recipient of an Academy Award for Scientific and Technical Achievement, received an ACM/SIGCHI Lifetime Achievement Award, and is a Fellow of the ACM. Bill has published, lectured and consulted widely, and is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Toronto, and a Distinguished Professor of Industrial Design at the Technical University Eindhoven.  Other than his family, mountains and rivers are his first love.

Junggi Sung

Designer, Daylight Design

Sung Junggi majored in Industrial design at Kookmin University. In 2003, he was awarded the Presidential Award of the 21st Century Excellent Personnel Design Department. He got attention as joining IDEO in Boston as a concept designer in 2004, which the world-famous design company. It is the first time as an Korean. Since then, he has worked as an industrial designer in LUNAR San Francisco for seven years. Since 2014, he has been a creative director at Daylight in San Francisco, Munich and Seoul. IF, IDEA, RedDot, and more than 40 times in the design awards and contests worldwide. More than 40 times have been awarded the Gold Prize, the Best of the Best Prize from Korea Design Promotion Agency. In 2008 and 2009 as Next Design Leader and in 2011 and 2012 It was selected as Post Next Generation Design Leader. Currently, he is commissioned as a judging committee for Germany IF Design Award 2019.

JungHoon Lee

Senior Industrial Designer, BMW Designworks

JungHoon Lee is the Senior Industrial designer at the BMW Designworks Munich studio. Creating advanced idea and vision of BMW group is the main task of him now, but he also has broad experiences as an industrial designer from the transportation across home appliances. The time before He joined BMW Designworks he worked at Teague, Bragi, Samsung as well and these multi discipline experiences as an industrial designer enables him to see the design in various point of view. Although he has worked for multiple innovative companies, he hasn’t lost an enthusiasm and the passion of creating something new which has to do with his vision towards to design. 12monthly.com is the monthly base website that he’s been running with his partner since 2014 and it’s the magazine to collect fresh aspect of design and encourage creative people like us.

Juyoun Lee

CEO, GAZE, inc.
Juyoun Lee leads the strategic vision at GAZE, inc as CEO, bringing exceptional expertise around open innovation, entrepreneurship, UX design, and commerce platform. She has 13 years of experience in the tech field, including 7 years at Samsung and graduated from KAIST in Industrial Design and Computer Science. She launched commerce platform, GAZESHOP – new concept of retail store that curates smart lifestyle products combined with Tech, Design and Fun experience. GAZE SHOP has 16 offline stores and online store in Korea market from 2013. She also orchestrated GAZE LAB team and launched several innovative consumer electronics products in global market from 2015.

Ju Hyun Eune

CEO, Korea Institute of Design Promotion

Juhyun Eune is CEO of Korea Institute of Design Promotion (KIDP) as well as professor of College of Fine Arts, Seoul National University. She specializes in interaction and UX design. Eune finished her bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degree programs in Industrial Design at KAIST. Before beginning her career in academics, she worked as a system designer in Daewoo Electronics as well a pathfinder web/3D designer in Time Inc. She also served as Vice President in HCI Korea Society as well as Chairman for preparation of CHI 2015.

Andrea Bianchi

Associate Professor, ID KAIST
Andrea Bianchi is associate professor in the Department of Industrial Design at KAIST. Andrea received his Ph.D. from KAIST (Korea) in 2012, his master’s in Computer Science from NYU (USA) and his BSc. in business administration from Bocconi University (Italy). Before joining KAIST, he worked at Sungkyunkwan University (Korea) as faculty member in the department of Computer Science. His research focuses on Human-Computer Interaction, physical computing, wearable mechatronics and prototyping toolkits. In a prior life, he also worked as a video game programmer for a New York startup.

Ju-Whan Kim

AI Engineer, Samsung Electronics
Ju-Whan Kim is an AI engineer and a former UX designer at Samsung Electronics. He has developed Bixby Voice, Samsung’s intelligent voice interface. He also designed intelligent user interfaces for Samsung’s smartphones. His research interests lie in the area of interaction design, especially AI-aided design and bespoke design. AI-aided design is to accelerate the design process through deep learning technology. Bespoke design intelligently adapts the design to user needs and context. He pursues design innovations based on human-centered AI technology.

Jihong Jeung

Professor, Tsinghua University
Jihong Jeung is a professor in the Future Lab at Tsinghua University. Before, he was a Program Director of MCST (Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism), which is in charge of South Korea’s Government Culture Technology R&D Planning, Management and Business Development. He was also a Vice President of UX Design at Samsung Electronics in Mobile Division. Dr. Jeung was a professor in UX design at SADI (Samsung Art and Design Institute), and a professor in the Interaction Design Lab at Kookmin University for more than 10 years. Dr. Jeung was a visiting professor at Zhongshan University, Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, Sun-yat San University, and a guest professor at GAFA, in China.”

Kun-Pyo Lee

Dean, Hong Kong Polytechnic University
Kun-pyo LEE is Dean of School of Design the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Before joining Hong Kong Polytechnic University, he was the Professor at the Department of Industrial Design, KAIST, South Korea and the director of the Human-Centered Interaction Design Lab for more than 30 years. He is co-founder and president emeritus of IASDR (International Association of Societies of Design Research). He also served as Chief Design Officer (Executive Vice President) of Corporate Design Center, LG Electronics. He is well known in Asia as an early pioneer in the field of design research, UX design and user-centered design, for which he was recognized as Honorary Fellow of the Design Research Society, and Local Hero at CHI 2015. After returning back to KAIST from LG with unique experiences in industry and academia he has been focusing on establishing a new design education paradigm under the name of Design 3.0.

Tek-Jin Nam

Professor, ID KAIST
Tek-Jin Nam is a Professor and Head of the Department of Industrial Design at KAIST, South Korea. He leads Co.design:Inter.action Design Research Laboratory at KAIST. He teaches Interactive Product Design Studio, Interaction Prototyping, and Design Research Issue at KAIST. His research interests lie at the intersection of industrial design and design-oriented human–computer interaction. The focus is on creating people-centric values of future products and services (Augmented Design as noun) and structured approaches to creative design and innovation (Augmented Design as verb). He is also interested in harmoniously integrating design research with practice.
